Forward progress of a small vegetation fire between Buellton and Lompoc in Santa Barbara County has been stopped, according to a tweet from Santa Barbara County Fire Department PIO Scott Safechuck, but crews will work through the night to fully extinguish any remaining threat.

Forward progress was stopped around 1:45 p.m.

The "Mail Fire" is burning near the 600 block of Mail Road about 7 miles west of Buellton. The total acreage burned is said to be approximately 1.5 acres.

The fire started around 12:22 p.m. at an old dump site located on private property, Safechuck told KSBY.

A Santa Barbara County Air Support Unit helicopter made water drops. Air tankers, which were originally on scene, have returned to base.

Santa Barbara County fire resources will remain in the area and work through the night, according to Safechuck.
